Akamai Secure Internet Access Overview

Akamai Secure Internet Access Enterprise is a cloud-based secure web gateway (SWG) designed to help security teams ensure that users and devices can securely connect to the internet wherever they happen to be without the intricacy and management overheads associated with other legacy security solutions. Secure Internet Access Enterprise is powered by real-time threat intelligence based on Akamai’s unrivaled global insights into internet and domain name system (DNS) traffic as well as multiple malware-detection engines.

Akamai Secure Internet Access Enterprise is used to provide Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) and Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC) member organizations with the Malicious Domain Blocking and Reporting (MDBR) service and the Malicious Domain Blocking and Reporting Plus (MDBR+) service. However, member organizations can upgrade to a self-managed standalone version of Secure Internet Access Enterprise that provides additional product features and capabilities at a discounted price.

There are three editions of Secure Internet Access available:

Secure Internet Access Essentials – Provides DNS Firewall security for on- and off-network security to proactively block requests to malware, ransomware, phishing, and C&C domains. In addition, you can configure the service to send domains classified as risky to the Akamai cloud proxy for HTTP and HTTPS URL inspection. Multi-tenant capability allows organizations to set up individual tenants to provide individual management capabilities to different areas of the organization.
Secure Internet Access Standard – Includes all the capabilities of Essentials and adds the capability to send all HTTP and HTTPS traffic to the Akamai cloud proxy as well as the capability to integrate with your identity provider service that enables user and group-based policies to be created and enforced.
Secure Internet Access Advanced – Includes all the capabilities of Standard and adds Inline Payload Analysis and Data Leakage Protection. An optional Offline Sandbox can also be added to Advanced for an additional license cost.
