Suneel Cherukuri has over 20 years of industry experience in large enterprise network environments specializing in cyber security architecture, design, engineering, and operations. As CISO for DC Government, Mr. Cherukuri provides visionary and strategic leadership in securing and protecting DC’s information resources, and the supporting infrastructure from external and internal threats, while administering the overall security operations.
Suneel’s passion to equip District employees with cybersecurity mitigation strategies is reflected in his thoughtful design and implementation of tools that educate employees about their role in reducing the risk and impact of cybersecurity threats.
A sought-after industry leader, Mr. Cherukuri received the 2019 StateScoop 50 Award in the “State Cybersecurity Leader of the Year” category and 2022 LocalSmart Award that honors the visionaries who transform local government to make a difference in citizens' lives. Prior to OCTO, Mr. Cherukuri worked in financial sector in various roles at some of the largest banks in Asia Pacific region.
