Join CIS and MS-ISAC at Virtual 11th Annual Cyber Security Summit
The Center for Internet Security (CIS) and the Multi-State Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) are proudly serving as partners for the Virtual 11th Annual Cyber Security Summit. This year’s event will take place virtually on Monday, October 25, through Wednesday, October 27.
At CIS, our mission has always been to make the connected world a safer place, and we’ve consistently prioritized bringing in as many perspectives from our global community of information security professionals as possible to help accomplish this goal. The organizers behind Cyber Security Summit share this belief. They developed this year’s programming collaboratively with an advisory panel of experts representing industries and governments across the 16 critical infrastructure sectors (including CIS’s own Tony Sager, Senior Vice President and Chief Evangelist) to address today’s biggest cybersecurity challenges head-on while keeping an eye on emerging threats on the horizon. The event is scheduled to bring together cybersecurity leaders and professionals from around the world; last year’s conference counted attendees from 39 states and over 20 countries.
As the home of the MS-ISAC, CIS is strongly familiar with the many unique cyber challenges our nation’s State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) governments face. Reflecting the distinctive needs of the SLTT space, this year’s summit will include the inaugural Public Sector Workshop on Monday, October 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CDT. The full day of programming will aim to help public sector entities improve their cyber defense strategies, better face today’s security challenges, and defend against emerging cyber threats.
Attend Our Sessions at Cyber Security Summit
This year’s agenda features 100+ sessions with industry leaders and experts. As partners for the conference, leaders from CIS and the MS-ISAC will bbe leading a number of educational sessions to help attendees better defend their organizations against cyber threats.
Public Sector Workshop Welcome Kickoff
Monday, October 25, at 8:00 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. CDT (Public Sector Workshop)
Carlos Kizzee, Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement for the MS-ISAC, and Rohit Tandon, CISO for the State of Minnesota, will introduce the Public Sector Summit. They’ll outline key challenges, requirements, capabilities, and solutions being implemented to address and mitigate the cybersecurity concerns for this unique sector.
Public Sector Cybersecurity: The State of the States, Local Governments, Tribes, and Territories
Monday, October 25, at 8:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. CDT (Public Sector Workshop)
Eugene Kipniss, MS-ISAC Member Programs Manager, will deliver the morning keynote to kick off the Public Sector Workshop. In the session, Kipniss will share critical observations from this year’s Nationwide Cybersecurity Review (NCSR), a no-cost, anonymous, annual self-assessment designed to measure gaps and capabilities of SLTT governments’ cybersecurity programs. The NCSR is completed annually by thousands of SLTT governments and the results are presented to Congress biennially. Kipniss’s presentation will include a brief on the threats and trends currently observed by the MS-ISAC and impacting SLTT governments, providing a summary threat landscape of the community. He will explore what the NCSR data can tell us about our risk reduction priorities in light of increasing threats to SLTTs, and help the audience consider how we can best leverage the NCSR to communicate those priorities to lawmakers.
Recommendations and Best Practices for Whole of State Governance to Mitigate Cyber Risk
Monday, October 25 at 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM CDT (Public Sector Workshop)
John Gilligan, President and CEO of CIS, will lead this session discussing how state government leaders must manage risk within a context where authority is distributed across sectors, levels and branches of government. Regardless of the structures and local culture that a governor and state legislature must operate within, they must establish cybersecurity governance that provides the mix of control and influence necessary and appropriate for their state, and that includes mechanisms for mitigating and responding to risk.
How to Leverage the Power of ISACs
Wednesday, October 27 at 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM CDT
Carlos Kizzee, VP of Stakeholder Engagement for the MS-ISAC, leads this session along with Christopher Buse, SVP and CISO for Old Republic Title Insurance Company and former CISO for the State of Minnesota, and Ryan Miller, Director of Cyber Threat & Fraud Intelligence for Target. Representing the MS-ISAC and the Retail and Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center (RH-ISAC), they’ll provide detailed insights and explore examples of actionable information sharing, products, and services that are available and success stories of cybersecurity improvements. ISACs require active engagement to maximize value, so the session will also focus on how to make the best use of being a member of an ISAC.
