CIS CAT® Pro Dashboard FAQ

CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard is a dynamic web application and companion tool to CIS-CAT Pro Assessor. CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard consumes assessment reports and allows users to quickly view their configuration assessment performance over time, from overall compliance down to a particular system or CIS Benchmark.

• Overview identification of assessment reports by date – view your entire ecosystem’s conformance to a particular benchmark or drill down to a particular system or group of systems

•  Sort assessment results per-benchmark or per-device – flexible reporting methods to let you view and sort data in multiple ways
• CIS Controls™ view for annotated CIS Benchmarks™ content – see how your systems compare to applicable CIS Controls best practices

• Custom device tagging – sort systems by group (PCI, admin, etc.) and view the group’s compliance over time

• Remove checks and re-score – ability to create exceptions to CIS Benchmark content and immediately recalculate assessment scoring

There are no strict requirements associated with the CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard application. Any OS which can run Tomcat is suitable. The amount of disk space necessary will be minimal on the application server, but installation will require more space on your database server depending upon the size of your organization and the amount of endpoints you have. As a reference point, our test environment for CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard has 100GB, but keep in mind that it is a test environment with a small number of systems reporting to it.

Our Linux test environment uses an AWS t2.large instance, which has:

• 8GB RAM
• 2 vCPUs with 4 cores each
• Ubuntu 16.04

Our Windows test environment uses an AWS t2.large instance, which has:

• 8GB RAM
• 2 vCPUs with 4 cores each
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Base

CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard is fairly lightweight on processor and memory use. However, when importing results, the usage will spike. Our recommendation would be to conduct importing off-hours which will limit any hindering of functionality during business hours.

New features and bug fixes are released periodically for CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard. Newly released updates to the application will be communicated via email to all CIS SecureSuite Members and the latest version of the tool can always be found pinned at the top of the Downloads section in CIS WorkBench.

Yes. CIS-CAT Pro Assessor produces the same output formats for the CIS Controls Assessment Module as it does for CIS Benchmarks. You can import the Asset Reporting Format (ARF) XML into the CIS-CAT Pro Dashboard to analyze the results over time.
