Nearly 8 Billion Attempts to Access Malicious Sites Blocked

The Center for Internet Security Releases Its Year in Review

EAST GREENBUSH. N.Y., April 13, 2023 – The Center for Internet Security, Inc. (CIS®) has released its 2022 Year in Review, highlighting tremendous growth, major accomplishments, and increasing impact on the state of cybersecurity globally.

As cyber threats continue to rise, CIS has remained a leader in promoting effective cybersecurity among U.S. State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial organizations, as well as offering products, services, and best practices to enhance the security of small to medium-sized businesses.

Some of the Year in Review highlights include:

  • The growth of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center® (MS-ISAC®) to over 14,000 state and local government organizations
  • Malicious Domain Blocking and Reporting (MDBR), a web security service funded by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), blocked nearly 8 billion attempts to access malicious sites
  • Endpoint Security Services (ESS) – 200,000 endpoints were ordered in 2022, and Puerto Rico successfully blocked nearly 4,000 attacks using ESS
  • Release of The Essential Guide to Election Security – downloaded 1,100 times
  • K-12 Report downloaded in 46 states and 19 countries
  • CIS Critical Security Controls ®  are increasingly referenced in state legislation as security best practices
  • CIS BenchmarksTM downloaded more than one million times in 2022

“CIS continues to increase focus on what we refer to as the “cyber underserved”—organizations with limited funding and/or technical resources to be able to meet the challenges of providing adequate cyber protection,” said John Gilligan, President and CEO of the Center for Internet Security. “I am enormously proud of the positive impact that CIS continues to have on our global community.”
